“…Here you stand. heart like a four-poster bed. heart like a canvas. heart leaking something so strong they can smell it in the street." -Marty McConnell

Curiosity killed the cat, but did it not also free it? How many worlds must exist within us before we realize that we were never meant to hold on so tightly? There is darkness coupled with our light and a reason women like us find solace in the likes of Kahlo and Woolf. As life drapes her layers upon us we shed the exoskeleton of what we thought we knew and wear these lessons as if they were a fresh layer of skin, still soft to the touch. How many evenings have we spent delving into the canyons washed through our hearts? When the world pulls upon our sleeves we feel it like the tides being called by the moon and if someone were to ask us what we wanted to be when we grew older I imagine it would go a little something like this:

What do I want? I want to be fascinated and to be tried. I want the depths of my soul to reach down to the core of my living And to keep a kindness within that the hardness of loss cannot touch. I want to be drawn to big cities and bigger mountains And to be honest in my vulnerabilities. I want to let love run it’s course and then, travel on. I want to keep the company of books but also acknowledge the wild that has laced it’s way into the marrow of my bones. I want to live deliberately, To embrace the strangeness within. When I laugh, I want it to boom And when I lose, I want to feel it with a fervor. To always be sure to leave a little room for mystery And to appreciate the magic that this world offers up in train car and sunset. There will always be hard nights to go along with absolute beauty And as we age may we continue to feel it all and to wear it upon the maps our faces are destined to become.
